Low-FODMAP Thousand Island Dressing

Low-FODMAP Thousand Island Salad Dressing

Low-FODMAP Thousand (1,000) Island Salad Dressing / Delicious as it Looks

This recipe was actually inspired by another recipe that I made (which I promise to share with you soon!) for a salad. I was struck by how much the dressing tasted like Thousand Island dressing, so I went with it. I added some more low-FODMAP ingredients to round it out, et voila! A Low-FODMAP salad dressing that tastes remarkably like Thousand Island.

My husband’s favorite salad dressing used to be Thousand Island. Until he met me. Now it’s Blue Cheese (like me). As Yoda would say, “Learning, he is.” But you know, sometimes Thousand Island dressing just tastes awesome and really hits the spot. If you are interested in my other low-FODMAP creamy salad dressings, here are some links:

I know some of you might be wondering how Worcestershire sauce is low-FODMAP since it has onion and garlic in it, but Monash has tested it and has found it to be low in FODMAPs. You can read more about Worcestershire sauce and FODMAPs here at A Little Bit Yummy. Monash has not tested American brands of Worcestershire sauce (that I know of), but so you know, I used Lea & Perrins brand (which is also gluten-free). If you decide not to add Worcestershire sauce, I assure you the dressing will still taste very good!

  4. Hi Dianne B,
I had started on the LowFod lifestyle last month and was wandering about this recipe for thousand island (I miss having my thousand island dressing)… what could I use instead of red wine vinegar and also could I use regular mustard instead of Dijon mustard?

  5. Hi Ginger, I think any type of vinegar would work (apple cider, rice, etc.) or you could even use lemon juice. Also, regular mustard would work just fine, just be a slightly different flavor than dijon.

  6. This is really good and makes eating salads on the FODMAP diet fun again! And it’s so easy and all ingredients are ones that you already have on hand. Genius.

  7. I thought ketchup was used in thousand island dressings. Why was ketchup omitted from this recipe, have you tried it with making this recipe with ketchup?

  8. I thought you are not supposed to have sugar on this diet?

  10. Is ketchup not allowed on the low FODMAP diet? I noticed it was not included in this recipe.
