My Spring 2011 Playlist

I hate cleaning, but it must be done. To make it more enjoyable, I plug my iPod into our stereo system and blast my favorite music. I love music and it’s an important part of my life. It is intimately entwined with my memories. When I hear a certain song, I am instantly transported to the time in my life when I first heard the song, or when I obsessively listened to it over and over again.

A few times a year, I gather up my favorite songs of the moment and make a playlist. It’s usually tied with the seasons. I like to listen to music that reminds me of the season we are currently in. For example, I incessantly listened to Chantal Kreviazuk’s “Color Moving and Still” album in the spring of 2001. So since it’s spring right now, I’m listening to that album again. I’m weird, I know……

Anyways, here are my favorite songs right now:

Cosmic Love – Florence + The Machine
You might recognize this song from the “Water for Elephants” commercial. I love the tribal beats and the harp. It’s a very powerful song.

Tremble – Charlotte Martin
If you haven’t heard of CharMar, you’re missing out. Her first album, “On Your Shore,” is one of my favorite albums of all time. “Tremble” is my favorite song from her latest album.

Arms – Christina Perri
You probably know Perri’s song “Jar of Hearts.” This is her second single, and I think I like it even better than “Jar of Hearts.”

Rolling in the Deep – ADELE
Wow, just wow. She sings the heck out of that song.

Poison & Wine – The Civil Wars
A beautiful duet about the dichotomy of love.

Firework – Katy Perry
An infectious, energizing song.

To Feel Love – Butterfly Boucher
I heard this song at the Sarah McLachlan concert and loved it.

Segovia – Melissa McClellan
Gorgeous voice, gorgeous song.

What are your favorite songs right now? I would love to know, I’m always looking for different music to listen to!

  1. I am such a dork…I have a sick, sad love for 70's soft rock music. I think it is because when my daughter was first born, and I was up a billion times in the middle of the night nursing her, I watched the same infomercial for Timelife's Soft Rock collection. It was hosted by Air Supply (another of my faves…such a dweeb I am), and was on at least one tv station every time I woke up. I watched the crap out of that commercial! Now, I am a lover of Bread, America, Seals and Crofts, and my ultimate fave, although not 70's, Christopher Cross. Feel free to laugh at me;)

P.S. I LOVE Rolling in the Deep and Firework also from your list:)

  2. I know those Timelife commercials! I suffer from insomnia from time to time, and have ended up watching them. I really love 80's music, stuff that reminds me of my childhood.
